Abstract

Chronic inflammatory processes of the urogenital system in women are frequent causes of complicated pregnancies and childbirth. The impact of this maternal pathology on the morphofunctional state of the respiratory organs of the off- spring remains an insufficiently studied issue, which makes comprehensive research necessary. The aim of our work was experimentally determine the ultrasound and organometric features of the lungs of offspring aged 1 week, 1 month, and 2 months under conditions of intrauterine exposure of maternal chronic inflammatory process of the urogenital system caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneu- moniae. Ultrasound studies showed that simulated maternal pathology caused the appearance of pathological B-lines and consolidations in the offspring lungs, the severity of which increased with the animals' age. Maternal chronic urogenital inflammation caused by these pathogens led to an increase in lung weight without affecting total lung length in offspring at all examined ages. Lung width was decreased in 1-week- old rats, remained unchanged in 1-month-old, and increased in 2-month-old. Maternal inflammatory process caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneu- moniae did not affect the shape of the lungs in the offspring at the age of 1 and 2 months, 2 months and 1 week, and 1 and 2 months, respectively. Lungs shape changed from intermedi- ate to moderately elongated in 1-week-old and 1-month-old offspring from mothers with chronic inflammatory process of the urogenital system caused by Streptococcus pyogenes and Proteus mirabilis, respectively. Thus, the simulated maternal pathology has a damaging effect on the ultrasound and organo- metric characteristics of the offspring's lungs. The prospect of further research is to determine the leading mechanisms of damage of the offspring's lungs by identifying their structural and metabolic features.

Keywords: ultrasound and organometric characteristics; lungs; offspring; maternal chronic inflammatory process of the urogenital system
