Abstract

The characteristic manifestations and consequences of accelerated aging of the respiratory system include age- related arterial hypoxemia and tissue hypoxia, largely due to impaired lung ventilation function. To improve lung function, respiratory training that creates positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) are used in clinical practice. The impact of respiratory training with PEEP on ventilation function in elderly people with accelerated aging of the respiratory system was assessed. The use of respiratory training led to an increase in forced vital capacity expiratory, expiratory reserve volume, minute ventilation, and maximum voluntary ventilation, as well as improved bronchial patency, particularly in terms of maximal expiratory flow at 25 and 50% of expiration, and a reduction in the functional age of the respiratory system. It should be noted that blood saturation increased, as well as a decrease in shifts in the hypoxic test after a course of training.

Keywords: accelerated aging; ventilation; respiratory training with PEEP
