Abstract
On November 13, 1810, a thirteenth child, son of Nikolai, was born in the family of the treasurer of the Moscow Provincial Depot Ivan Ivanovich Pirogov. Grandfather, Ivan Makiyevich, who had already passed for a hundred, with a smile took the baby in his arms and said: "Lord, have mercy! Lord, bless! .. »
Thus began the life journey of a great physician, researcher and educator who, for the first time in the history of medicine, used anesthesia and gypsum, and combined science and faith and set an example for many generations of physicians.
